SproutArmor™ means every batch of seeds is pathogen tested before it ships, adding an extra layer of care before seeds ever reach your counter. It's one part of a broader food safety program built around growing with confidence at home.

BenefitsHow it worksFAQs

  1. Add your seeds, cover with water, and let them soak once for 8 hours while you sleep.
  2. Rinse and drain morning and night — about 2min a day, like brushing your teeth. That's it.
  3. Harvest fresh food: in 5-7 days your sprouts are ready, just rinse and enjoy on your favorite meals. You grew this.

A sprout is a seed that has woken up. Give a dry seed water and a few days, and it starts building a plant: growing a root, unfurling a stem, and synthesizing nutrients it never had while it was dormant.

You eat the whole thing, seed and stem and all, usually three to five days in. No soil, no sunlight, no garden. Just seeds, water, and about a minute of your attention twice a day. Welcome to one of the most nutrient-dense foods on Earth!

None of the three. Sprouting happens indoors, in water, on a countertop, and sunlight is not part of it. If you can rinse a colander, you can do this. That is the whole skill.

About a minute, twice a day. You rinse, you drain, you walk away. Most people fold it into things they already do. Rinse when the coffee is brewing, rinse again after dinner.

Legumes like lentils and green peas are ready in about three days. Leafy sprouts like broccoli, salad mix, alfalfa and clover take five to six.

Either way you are eating food you grew inside of a week, which is the part most people do not believe until they do it.

You will be harvesting in 5 days. If you are not, tell us within 30 days and we will make it right.

Your sprouter also carries a one-year warranty, and you can return it within 30 days of delivery if it is not for you. Return shipping is currently the customer's responsibility, and we need your original proof of purchase.

Seeds are a fresh food item, so we cannot take them back once they have shipped. If something is not right with yours, email us and we will make it right.

The mix most people end up eating every day.

Our organic broccoli grown alongside alfalfa, radish, mung beans, and green lentils, so one harvest gives you peppery bite, tender greens, and hearty crunch all at once. It is the answer to the problem nobody warns you about with sprouting: broccoli alone gets repetitive by week three. This does not.

Add a cup to a salad, a sandwich, a taco, or a bowl without changing anything else about the meal.

Contains (organic): alfalfa, broccoli, radish, mung beans, green lentils. Blend may vary based on seed availability.

Our high-germination organic seeds are selected for reliable growth, so you get fresh sprouts from your kitchen year-round. No soil, no sunlight, no garden.

Seed amount: 1/4 cup in a 55 oz sprouting jar

Yield: 8 oz: 5.5 harvests (35 servings). 16 oz: 11 harvests (70 servings).

Enjoy fresh sprouts in salads, sandwiches, wraps, smoothies, grain bowls, or on top of almost any meal.

Stainless steel wide-mouth lid

Mason jars serve a lot of purposes, but they're not optimized for sprouting. Our sprouter uses a wide-mouth 304 stainless steel filter for optimal airflow and drainage. No plastic ever touches your homegrown food.

Straight-walled for 100% drainage

The angled base holds the jar at the exact pitch sprouts need. Water leaves completely after every rinse — the single biggest factor in avoiding spoilage.

Optimal airflow

Thick-walled glass and a vented lid keep air moving around the crop, so sprouts grow evenly from the first rinse to harvest day.

12 seed varieties

Broccoli, radish, lentil, chickpea and more. Every lot is germination-tested and protected by SproutArmor™, so what you plant is what you harvest. All certified organic and non-GMO.

Up to 100x more glucoraphanin than mature broccoli*

The studies

Johns Hopkins researchers found broccoli sprouts carry glucoraphanin at concentrations mature broccoli never reaches, with the published range running from 10 to 100 times depending on variety. It is why we harvest at day three.

Fahey JW, Zhang Y, Talalay P. Broccoli sprouts: an exceptionally rich source of inducers of enzymes that protect against chemical carcinogens. PNAS 1997;94(19):10367-10372.

A later review from the same group mapped how variety, form, and dose change what actually reaches you, and why sprouts sit at the top of that range.

Yagishita Y, Fahey JW, Dinkova-Kostova AT, Kensler TW. Molecules 2019;24(19):3593.

*Compared with mature broccoli, and referring to the High-Sulforaphane Broccoli seed included in this blend.

Switches on your body's own defenses*

The studies

Most antioxidants get used up as they work. Sulforaphane works differently. It switches on a cellular pathway that prompts your body to produce its own protective enzymes, which keep working after the compound itself is gone.

Fahey JW, Talalay P. Food and Chemical Toxicology 1999;37(9-10):973-979.

Researchers call that pathway Keap1-Nrf2. Sulforaphane is one of the most potent known dietary activators of it.

Dinkova-Kostova AT, Fahey JW, Kostov RV, Kensler TW. Trends in Food Science and Technology 2017;69(B):257-269.

In a Johns Hopkins study, broccoli sprout extract applied to human skin measurably raised those protective enzymes and reduced the skin reddening response to UV. A skin study rather than a diet study, but a clear look at the mechanism working in a person.

Talalay P, Fahey JW, Healy ZR, Wehage SL, Benedict AL, Min C, Dinkova-Kostova AT. PNAS 2007;104(44):17500-17505.

*Refers to the body's own antioxidant and cellular defense processes. Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

50+ human trials, not just lab theory*

The studies

Forty adults ate 30 grams of fresh broccoli sprouts a day for ten weeks as part of a normal diet. Two markers researchers use to track inflammation, IL-6 and CRP, both declined over the period, and part of the change held for weeks after they stopped.

Lopez-Chillon MT, Carazo-Diaz C, Prieto-Merino D, Zafrilla P, Moreno DA, Villano D. Clinical Nutrition 2019;38(2):745-752.

Twelve healthy adults ate 100 grams of fresh sprouts daily for a week. Researchers recorded changes in lipid and oxidative stress markers.

Murashima M, Watanabe S, Zhuo XG, Uehara M, Kurashige A. BioFactors 2004;22(1-4):271-275.

In a placebo-controlled trial in Qidong, China, participants drinking a broccoli sprout beverage cleared measurably more benzene and acrolein, two airborne pollutants, than those on placebo. A follow-up trial confirmed the effect scaled with dose.

Egner PA, Chen JG, Zarth AT, et al. Cancer Prevention Research 2014;7(8):813-823.

These are three of more than fifty human trials on sulforaphane conducted since 1997.

*Studies referenced examine sulforaphane and broccoli sprouts generally, not The Sprouting Company products specifically.

Why a capsule cannot do this*

The studies

When glucoraphanin arrives with active myrosinase in the same bite, sulforaphane bioavailability was roughly three to four times higher than when conversion was left to gut bacteria alone.

Fahey JW, Holtzclaw WD, Wehage SL, Wade KL, Stephenson KK, Talalay P. PLOS ONE 2015;10(11):e0140963.

A 2025 trial found the people who responded to a broccoli sprout extract had more of a specific gut bacterial gene needed to make that conversion, and the gene abundance tracked with sulforaphane in their blood. If your microbiome has to do the work, your result depends on your microbiome. A fresh sprout does not ask it to.

Dwibedi C, Axelsson AS, Abrahamsson B, Fahey JW, et al. Nature Microbiology 2025.

The form sulforaphane arrives in, whether sprouts, beverage, extract, or tablet, meaningfully changes how much reaches the body.

Yagishita Y, Fahey JW, Dinkova-Kostova AT, Kensler TW. Molecules 2019;24(19):3593.

*Comparison refers to glucoraphanin with and without active myrosinase, as measured in the cited research.

Protected before it reaches your counter*

The studies

Dr. Jed Fahey of Johns Hopkins and TSC founder Doug Evans reviewed more than two decades of foodborne illness surveillance and concluded that sprouts are both highly nutritious and very safe when responsibly produced, with only a very small fraction of foodborne illness attributable to them.

Fahey JW, Smilovitz Burak J, Evans D. Sprout microbial safety: a reappraisal after a quarter-century. Food Frontiers 2023;4(1):318-324.

Every seed is protected by SproutArmor™, our proprietary treatment that adds an extra layer of care before seeds ever reach your counter. It's one part of a broader food safety program built around growing with confidence at home.

Every TSC seed lot is also pathogen-tested for E. coli and Salmonella before it ships. And the sprouter itself is engineered with airflow and drainage that remove the two conditions DIY methods fail on.

*Review of published surveillance data. Individual results depend on seed source and growing practice. SproutArmor™ is a trademark of Wova Labs, Inc.

Two cruciferous compounds, one jar*

The studies

Radish sprouts produce sulforaphene, an isothiocyanate from the same family as the sulforaphane in broccoli sprouts. One comparative analysis measured it at concentrations well above those found in broccoli sprouts.

Hashimoto M, et al. 2024. PubMed 38597802.

The form a cruciferous compound arrives in, and the variety it comes from, meaningfully change what reaches the body. Growing five sprouts together in one jar covers more of that range than growing one.

Yagishita Y, Fahey JW, Dinkova-Kostova AT, Kensler TW. Molecules 2019;24(19):3593.

*Sulforaphene research is younger and less replicated than sulforaphane research. The comparison reflects a single published analysis.

If you are here for the nutrition, start with High-Sulforaphane Broccoli. It is our most researched seed and the reason most people find us.

If you want something that goes on everything and pleases everyone at the table, start with High-Sulforaphane Salad Mix. Broccoli, radish, mung beans and green lentils in one harvest, so you get variety in texture and flavor without running two batches.

If you want protein, start with Lentils or Green Peas. They are also the fastest, which makes them a satisfying first win.

Sprouts grow in water, take three to five days, and you eat the entire plant including the root and seed. Microgreens grow in soil or a growing medium, need light, take seven to fourteen days, and you cut off the top and leave the roots behind.

Sprouts are faster, need less equipment, and give you more food per square inch of counter. That is why we build around them.

More people do than you would expect, and the reason is that the feedback loop is fast. You see visible change every single day, and you are eating the result inside a week. Most healthy habits ask you to wait months for a payoff you cannot see.

The system is built for the sticking part too. The sprouter sits on your counter where you cannot forget it, and the daily job is small enough that skipping it never feels worth it.

Measure your seed into the sprouter with the stainless steel spoon. Cover with water and soak, usually six to eight hours for leafy seeds and longer for legumes. Check your seed bag or the product page for the specific seed, since soak time is the one thing that changes seed to seed.

Then rinse and drain twice a day, morning and evening, for the next three to five days (depending on the seed). About a minute each time, as easy as brushing your teeth! The sprouter does the rest: it holds the angle for you, so water drains out completely and air flows perfectly for the best growing conditions.

When the sprouts fill the jar, harvest. That is the whole process.

No soil, no sun, no green thumb required!

In our sprouter, about a quarter cup for leafy seeds like broccoli, salad mix, alfalfa and clover. About one cup for legumes like lentils, green peas, mung beans and protein mix.

Seed expands a lot more than people expect. A quarter cup of broccoli seed fills the sprouter completely.

When the sprouter is full, they are ready. More precisely, you are looking for white tails anywhere from a quarter inch to three inches depending on the seed.

You can also just taste them as they grow. Wash your hands, rinse a few, and decide for yourself. Flavor shifts day to day and there is no single right answer.

Rinse them well. This washes off the biofilm that builds up during growing, which helps them last longer.

Remove the seed hulls if you want. Optional, but it buys you a couple of extra days of shelf life.

Dry them. This is the step people skip and then wonder why their sprouts went slimy. A salad spinner is the best tool for it, and it doubles as your storage container.

Refrigerated and properly dried, five to seven days. Store them loosely in something with a bit of airflow. A salad spinner with the lid resting on top works well, and so does any clean container that does not compress them.

The container matters less than two things: they need to be dry going in, and they need to be cold.

71 to 76°F is the sweet spot. Sprouts grow noticeably slower when it's too hot or too cold, and a kitchen in the mid sixties can take twice as long to produce the same harvest.

Nothing is wrong if your batch is slow. It's almost always temperature.

No, and we generally suggest you do not. Sanitizing before growing tends to reduce germination, which means a thinner harvest.

If you would rather take the extra step, a quick vinegar and water rinse at harvest gives you most of the reassurance without hurting your crop. If you are pregnant, nursing, or immunocompromised, this is worth a conversation with your doctor.

Harvest before you leave if the batch is close, and refrigerate. Sprouts hold five to seven days in the fridge, so a short trip is not a problem.

If the batch is only a day or two in, refrigerating slows things down considerably. It is not ideal, but it is better than leaving them unrinsed on the counter.

The simplest answer is to start your next batch when you get back. Nothing is lost by waiting.

A dry seed is a whole plant in storage. Germination wakes it up, and the seed starts building: vitamins it did not have while dry, protein your body can absorb more easily, and minerals it had locked away.

You also eat them hours from harvest rather than days from a truck, which matters because some nutrients degrade meaningfully during storage and transport.

And you know exactly what is in them, because nothing is. Seeds, water, and you.

Sulforaphane is a compound your body makes when you eat cruciferous vegetables, and broccoli sprouts are one of the richest sources of the precursor it comes from.

It is one of the most studied plant compounds in nutrition science, with more than 25 years of peer-reviewed research and over fifty human clinical trials behind it. Researchers are interested in it because of how it works: rather than acting as an antioxidant itself, it activates a cellular pathway that prompts your body to produce its own protective enzymes.

Broccoli sprouts can contain up to 100 times more glucoraphanin, the precursor to sulforaphane, than mature broccoli. The published range runs from about 10 to 100 times depending on the variety, which is why we harvest at day three when levels peak.

That finding came out of Johns Hopkins in 1997 and it is the reason the entire broccoli sprout category exists.

A fresh sprout carries two things in the same bite: glucoraphanin, and myrosinase, the enzyme that converts it. Research has found that when active myrosinase is present, sulforaphane bioavailability is roughly three to four times higher than when the conversion is left to gut bacteria alone.

A capsule usually delivers an isolated compound without that enzyme. Fresh sprouts deliver the whole system, plus the fiber, vitamins and co-factors that come with actual food. It also costs a fraction as much per serving.

Glucoraphanin content, and the difference is large. Our standard Organic Broccoli tests at roughly 35 μmol per gram. Our High-Sulforaphane Broccoli tests at 107 μmol per gram, third-party verified, which is about three times the competitive average we measured.

That difference comes from genetics. Glucoraphanin levels in broccoli seed are determined mostly by the variety, so the seed you start with decides most of the outcome. Most broccoli seed sold for sprouting was bred for farm yield rather than nutrition, and when we tested competitor seed, one sample came back with none at all.

Both are good seeds. If sulforaphane is why you are here, the high-sulforaphane one is the reason we exist.

Selective breeding over dozens of crop cycles, the same way every food crop has been improved for thousands of years. No genetic modification anywhere in the process.

The seeds are certified organic, which by definition means non-GMO.

Every seed we sell is certified organic by Oregon Tilth, and organic certification means non-GMO by definition. Every lot is also pathogen-tested for E. coli, Salmonella and Listeria, and tested for germination rate before it ships.

SproutArmor is our proprietary seed treatment that adds an extra layer of care before seeds ever reach your counter. It is one part of a broader food safety program built around growing with confidence at home.

Yes, when they are grown responsibly, and this has been studied properly rather than just asserted. A 2023 peer-reviewed review co-authored by Dr. Jed Fahey of Johns Hopkins and our founder Doug Evans examined more than two decades of foodborne illness surveillance and concluded that responsibly produced sprouts are both highly nutritious and very safe, with only a very small fraction of foodborne illness attributable to them.

On our end, every seed lot is pathogen-tested before it ships and protected by SproutArmor. On yours, the sprouter is engineered with the airflow and drainage that DIY methods lack, which are the two things that actually go wrong.

Only if they are labeled specifically for sprouting. Seeds sold for planting or for cooking move through a completely different supply chain, are not tested to the same standard, and are not intended to be eaten raw.

Sprouting seed from a reputable source is pathogen-tested and germination-tested. That is the whole difference, and it is the difference that matters when you are eating it uncooked.

For leafy seeds, an 8 oz bag gives you about 5 and a half full harvests, and each harvest is roughly 6 to 7 servings. So somewhere around 35 servings per bag.

That works out to pennies per serving, which is a fraction of what the same amount of fresh sprouts costs at a grocery store, when you can find them at all.
